INTRODUCTION The use of economizers in data centers may represent a large potential for savings in energy and reduction of [CO.sub.2] emissions. Recent publications suggest Data Centers constitute approximately 1.5% of total U.S. energy consumption. In addition, they also represent one of the fastest growing industry sectors, suggesting they need to be a significant focus of the future energy policy of the world. As such, the United States DOE & select groups within ASHRAE have pushed for the inclusion of prescriptive requirements for both types of economizers within ASHRAE Standard 90.1.
